Acquiring a copy of your lease agreement (or a university letter) will serve as concrete evidence of your residency at a specific address in Texas for the duration stated on the document. This lease may be disjoined as long as it adds to a total of 12 months.


Please Note: Having transactions in the state during this time can help strengthen the argument that you have been residing in Texas for 12 months. In addition, having the apartment utilities under your name is helpful too.


Step-by-Step Guide


If On-Campus

  1. Draft an email to your school's housing office

    1. University of Texas at Austin Housing Office

    2. Texas A&M University Housing Office

    3. University of Houston Housing Office

    4. Texas State University Housing Office

    5. Texas Tech University Housing Office

    6. University of North Texas Housing Office

    7. University of Texas Arlington Housing Office

    8. The University of Texas at San Antonio Housing Office

    9. The University of Texas at Dallas Housing Office

  2. Send them an email using the template below:

    1. Subject

      1. Request for Proof of Address for On-Campus Dorm

    2. Body

      1. Dear Housing Department, I am writing to request a letter of proof of address for my on-campus dorm. I am currently a resident at *[dormitory name and room number]*. I am in need of this document to obtain a Texas driver's license. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with a letter that verifies my address at the above-mentioned dorm.
