To fulfill the residency requirements for your Texas, we'll need to provide evidence of your continuous residence in the state for a minimum of 12 consecutive months, starting from the date you began your residency journey. Since this duration may not precisely align with the start or end dates of a single lease, it's typical to submit multiple leases (or other supporting documents like credit card purchases or utility bills) that collectively cover the entire 12-month period.

Please Note: If your academic year lease spans a full 12 months (with lodging over the summer), there's no need to seek additional housing in Texas during the summer months. However, if there's a gap between your leases, you can contact your university's residency office, providing them with the specific dates and duration of your gap. They will assess whether the gap meets residency requirements. If it does, you're all set. If not, you'll need to arrange alternative housing to avoid any complications with your residency status.

Please Note: Lease cannot be month-to-month. Pls use defined dates!

Step-by-Step Guide

Renting from Friends / Family

  1. Opting for a rental arrangement with friends or family can offer a familiar and comfortable living environment. This choice not only provides a sense of security but may also present potential financial benefits

  2. Documentation: Even if leasing from friends or family, it's crucial to have a formal lease agreement in writing. This not only protects both parties but also serves as a vital document for residency validation. Clearly outline the terms of the lease, including rent, duration, and any other relevant agreements. This ensures transparency and avoids misunderstandings. You may use our lease template.
